Overheating risks for seniors

Here in Austin, I didn’t need to read an article in USAToday to know that it is hot.  Staying cool is a main topic of discussion and usually the first item of business for everyone.

Elderly people have special concerns when it comes to heat risk.  The article “Summer heat brings dangers for seniors” highlights some key points to consider.

My best advice is to know the symptoms of heat stress and stay inside during the heat of the day.  If you don’t have air conditioning, keep hydrated and use a fan.  If it gets too hot, and you are able, try to go to a public place and cool off such as a movie, library or mall.
