Co-owner John Hilsher is a champion for in-home care in Austin. His passion and mastery of customer service has reached the guru level. His extensive collection of tools and 1970's era home secured his position as the staff handyman as well. Away from work he can be found playing a never ending game of tug-of-war with his dogs and is anxiously awaiting his first child with his lovely wife.
No Country For Old Men
Here in Austin Texas, we are blessed to have a city that supports our elders. There are so many care options for seniors in Austin it can almost be overwhelming. We have a choice to remain at home or go to an assisted living facility or nursing home. We have payment options to negotiate including Medicare, Medicaid, Long Term Care insurance, private pay and VA assistance. We also have transitional services such as Meals on Wheels and faith based volunteer organizations. Whether you are coordinating services with senior care agencies or performing them yourself, you are still providing essential services for a senior in your life.
Now try to imagine having one, maybe two options. Better yet, what if you had no options? I heard an interesting story on NPR recently called “India: No Country For Old People”. I think it provides some much needed perspective about this important issue.
Consider this; the government in India recently had to pass a law requiring children to take care of their parents. They just don’t have the social services available for seniors.
