His extensive collection of tools and 1970's era home secured his position as the staff handyman as well. Away from work he can be found playing a never ending game of tug-of-war with his dogs and is anxiously awaiting his first child with his lovely wife.
I love technology, but not as much as you you see
When I first saw the article “Technologies Help Adult Children Monitor Aging Parents” in the New York Times, I didn’t know what to expect. Senior home care in Austin and technology are not topics I usually associate together in my mind. I agree with the author’s assessment of the value of keeping aging parents at home. I was also pleased to see the path the article took.
Yes, there is technology out there now that can monitor your aging parents daily lives for you so that you can be assured of their safety. Being an advocate for home health care in Austin, I support most measures that allow people to live at home. The challenge the piece exposes is convincing the senior that this is for their benefit so it is not seen as an imposition or invasion of privacy. There are several references to studies on seniors and transition to explore.
The take away for me was to start the discussion with your loved one long before they need the help. The proper approach when discussing any senor home care options is one that does not cause a defensive reaction and let's the parent know they are still in control.
