Compression-only CPR
About a year ago or so I remember hearing a story on NPR that discussed the value of chest compressions during CPR. The person being interviewed even went so far as to say that he believed that one day, compressions only, might be a preferred technique.
Today, Third Age posted an article titled CPR Without Mouth to Mouth Now Recommended. I went immediately to see if the Red Cross has also embraced this practice and they confirmed Compression-Only CPR Okay in Certain Situations.
The many senior home care options in Austin have enabled more and more of our elders to remain independent and at home. This has given many family members the role of caregiver and means that we may find ourselves in an emergency at home. The Red Cross is clear on what to do if someone is not trained or can not remember traditional CPR. In short, Call 911 and give continuous chest compressions until medical help arrives.
